christmas card

It wouldn't be Christmas without a pigeon dressed up as robin:

museum

Found out today that there is a whole museum dedicated to pigeons in Oklahoma: World of Wings
The website could do with a bit of a makeover, but I'm still keen to go. There are some pretty smart pigeons in the world:

Today I'm locked out of my house. So I'm spending the afternoon sitting in a tea shop looking up pigeon-related treats on etsy.

Here are my top picks for today:

1. Green pigeon brooch
2. Pin cushion bracelets
3. Badge set
4. Pigeons of Trafalgar Square wallet
5. A delightful necklace

pigeon post

Today Simon sent me this photograph he took of a pigeon he met in the north (my photo doesn't do it justice I'm afraid). What a cute little bedraggled bird he is though.

I am most pleased.

pigeon picture of the day

I just stumbled across this wonderful pigeon illustration by Zoe Austin and thought I really must share.

How splendid.
If anyone knows of any more pigeon art out there then please do share!

work work work

Apologies for the lack of pigeon updates of late. I've been busy finishing off my final MA project for our exhibition in September.
Please do come and visit the show if you are in the area:

I'm making an interactive museum:

And yes, I have managed to fit a pigeon in their somewhere. I couldn't resist.

pigeon light

I finally got around to putting my pigeon light on the wall this weekend (in time for our hat party). It looked a treat! And there was even the appearance of a pigeon based hat - good times!

I'd like to get the light in a couple more colours, but I picked grey for this one as it was most pigeon-like.
I think I made the right choice.

National pigeon day took place yesterday in New York.
Here's a wee news article about it.
And a picture of someone in an AMAZING pigeon costume:

a treat of a shirt

I've never seen a t-shirt that I like more than this one.
It was in GAP a few years ago and it was my personal mission at the time to get as many people as I could to own it. I figured then I'd get to see it all the time.

I'm not sure why I didn't just buy myself one...I regret that a lot.
But I know of 4 people who have one so if I get desperate I can always track one down. Stealing clothes off the washing line isn't too big a crime surely...

are you a pigeon fancier?

My plan for tomorrow is to check out the above exhibition. I'm confident it's going to be pretty wonderful.

Unfortunately I'll be missing out on the pigeon liberation, which is taking place on Monday (c'est un désastre!) so if any of you happen to go then please do document it as I am very curious indeed.

Will make sure to fill you in on the exhibition once I've been, but if you want any other information before then just head on over to the website.

what's all this then...

A whole day.
Devoted to pigeons.
What news!

Unfortunately it's all taking place in New York.
& New York is very far away.
Maybe next year?

pigeons on etsy

One of the things I search for most often on etsy is, of course, pigeons.
This is my best purchase to date:

I bought it a few months ago and unfortunately the shop which I got it from is now closed. But here are some other treats that are out there waiting to be snapped up:

spotted dove print (almost a pigeon).

pigeon necklace.

A nice lino print.

vintage flash cards.

& there's plenty more where they came from.

PIGEON NEWS

Check this out:

It's part of the Brighton Festival Fringe 2009 and I think everyone should go!
What could be better than an exhibition about pigeons and pigeon fanciers, followed by a liberation of pigeons.
You can even attach a note for one to carry (helpful fellows that they are!).

See here for more details and I hope to see you all on the 25th May.
I might even wear my pigeon hat.

my first screen print...

and guess what it contained:

light reading

I got a new book in the post today:

It was recommended to me quite a while ago now and I finally got around to getting a copy. I think it's about a man who is tormented by a pigeon (surely not!?). Will let you know how it goes.

In other news, I moved into a new office on Monday and there is a gang of pigeons who spend their day on the tree outside my window. They looked very cold and damp yesterday and I thought about throwing them some raisins but thought it best not to encourage them (I don't want to be responsible for a pest problem).

Will keep you updated about their progress though...maybe I should name them?

a pigeon on a badge

I attended the brighton zinefest at the weekend and found a stall where you could design a button badge and have it made. It didn't take me long to decide what I wanted and I got two of these little pigeon badges.

Now, I think one is for me, but the other is looking for a nice new home so I'd like to send it out to one of you. If anyone would like it please leave a comment and I'll be more than happy to post it out.

Hooray - wear your pigeon with pride!

a jolly good cause

Have a look at this website:

SAVE THEM!

pigeon hat

Do you like my pigeon hat?

It's actually a hunting decoy but I thought I'd put it to a much better (and friendlier use) by wearing it as a hat.
Perfect for fancy dress - I'd definitely recommend it.
